Strong Men Control This Daily (and you should too)

Do this for 5 minutes with your kids and feel the connection

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

The festivities might make this first improvement bit more of a challenge but the tradeoff is this: if you can do it this weekend, you can do it ANY weekend. Stay strong 💪

1️⃣ For Me (Improve Yourself)

🍩 Limit Sugar to 1x/Week
Before you panic—this isn’t a sugar-shaming sermon.
But you know those mid-day crashes? That foggy brain? That “Why am I yelling about socks again?” type of energy?
Yeah, sugar plays a part. If you don’t believe me, ask any diabetic who manages their blood sugar levels well. That’s how I really learned of the level of impact sugar has on mid-day mood and energy.

Try this:

  • Pick one day for your treat (make it epic)

  • Cut sneaky sugars from drinks, snacks, sauces (this was the hard part for me; I’m a sauce guy)

  • Replace the candy bar with fresh or frozen fruit, protein, or just a walk (frozen mango is my personal favorite)

You’re not cutting joy—you’re reclaiming consistency. I don’t drink soda and thought I was doing great for years.

I didn’t realize how much added sugar I consumed just through sauces alone until I was 35 years old.

If you have control over the food you consume, you have control over your life.

Every great spiritual leader (think Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, etc) notably fasted from food at some phase or another and lead to further enlightenment.
Because when your energy is stable, your patience and presence follow.

Not a complete nutritional overhaul, but give it a few days and it will feel like one.

2️⃣ For ‘We’ (Improve your relationship)

🤝 Hold Hands in Public
Simple? Yes.
Corny? I don’t think so.
But powerful? Absolutely.

Reach for your partner’s hand next time you’re out—even just walking into the store. That tiny gesture says:

  • “I see you.”

  • “I’m still choosing you.”

  • “We’re in this together.”

  • “Let someone try to kidnap you with this old ball and chain connected 😉 “

It’s not about PDA. It’s about connection. Bonus points for developing your own hand-tap-language through squeezes, taps, and subtle pointing out comical encounters.

3️⃣ For ‘WEEEEEEE!’ (Improve your relationship with the kids)

🧘‍♂️ Stretch, Do Yoga, or Meditate Together
You don’t need matching yoga mats or tranquil music (unless that’s your jam).

Just… move and breathe together.

Try this:

  • A 5-minute stretch session mid-day or before bedtime

  • A 2-minute breathing break when they’re melting down

  • A “copy me” movement game in the living room (there are also great video options on youtube if you search “kids yoga”

It’s good for them to see you slowing down. It’s even better for you to slow down with them.

And hey, if you’re apart—FaceTime yoga works too. Be that mindful, present dad no matter the distance.

Even just to your one friend that you send all the memes to, or the guys in your group-chat that you hope never makes it public so you can still have a chance at public office someday 😉 . It would mean a lot to me and hopefully help a fellow father in life.
